Symmetric Dimethylarginine Assay Validation

This is a new more sensitive test that will allow the identification of dogs that have only lost 40% of their total renal function.

Research Paper
One of the biggest challenges facing breeders and owners is the early detection of Boxers that have reduced renal capacity. These dogs may remain subclinical or progress to renal failure and symptoms in the future. Early identification will allow these dogs to be removed from any breeding programme and start preventative treatments that may extend the life of the dog and improve the quality of life. Current screening methods can require the kidneys to have severe damage and have lost more than 70% of their capacity before the damage can be measured see screening tests. This new more sensitive screen would identify dogs that have only lost 40% of their renal function
